What receipt or proof of purchase is accepted?

Short answer
A receipt or proof of purchase is required when you manually submit a purchase, or when JOON needs additional documentation to verify that a purchase is eligible — such as purchases from large retailers where the item type isn't immediately clear.

When you'll need to provide proof of purchase

You may be asked to upload proof of purchase in the following situations:

  • You are manually submitting a purchase for reimbursement
  • Your employer requires receipts for all reimbursements
  • You are requesting an eligibility review for a connected card purchase from a large retailer
  • The merchant name alone doesn't make it clear what was purchased

What counts as proof of purchase

Your proof of purchase must clearly show:

  • Merchant or business name
  • Purchase date
  • Purchase amount

Accepted formats include:

  • A store or digital receipt
  • A Venmo or PayPal transaction confirmation
  • A bank or credit card statement

Screenshots are acceptable as long as all required information is clearly visible.

When an itemized receipt is required

For purchases from large retailers or general merchants that sell a wide variety of products, an itemized receipt is required — not just a standard receipt showing the total.

This is because JOON needs to confirm that the specific item purchased qualifies under your benefit program, not just that a transaction occurred.

Common examples where an itemized receipt is needed:

  • Amazon
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Any retailer where the purchase could be either eligible or ineligible depending on what was bought

An itemized receipt should list each specific item or service purchased so eligibility can be clearly confirmed.
