Why Did I Receive an E-mail from Stripe or JOON?

What to do when you receive an email from Stripe requesting that you verify your identity or more information.

Short answer
There are a few reasons you may receive an email from Stripe or JOON — the most common are identity verification requests from Stripe, or a reminder to finish setting up your JOON account. These emails are legitimate and require action to continue receiving reimbursements.

Emails about completing your JOON account setup

If you haven't fully set up your JOON account yet, you may receive an email reminding you to complete the process. This can include:

  • Accepting the Terms of Service
  • Setting up your direct deposit information
  • Completing any other required onboarding steps

You'll need to complete your account setup before you can begin receiving reimbursements. You can do this by logging into your JOON dashboard and following any prompts to finish setting up your account.

Emails from Stripe requesting identity verification

For compliance purposes, you may receive an email from Stripe requesting that you verify your identity. These emails are legitimate (not spam) and are part of Stripe's standard Know Your Customer (KYC) process, which ensures reimbursements are sent safely and to the right person.

Common subject lines include:

  • [Action required] Provide a date of birth for a business representative
  • [Action required] Stripe still needs more information to continue receiving payments from JOON
  • [Action required] Update your information to continue receiving payments from JOON

Note: Stripe may refer to you as a "business representative" — this is simply Stripe's standard terminology and has no bearing on your role. You can safely disregard that language.

This is a required, standard practice and does not mean you have done anything wrong. Once you complete the verification, you'll continue receiving reimbursements as normal.

When does Stripe request verification?

The exact timing varies by individual and is determined solely by Stripe. In our experience, these requests typically begin once you've received around $1,300 in reimbursements, and verification must be completed before you reach $3,000 in total reimbursements.

Completing verification before that threshold ensures there's no interruption to your reimbursements.

What to do

If you receive either type of email:

  • For account setup emails: log into your JOON dashboard and complete any outstanding steps
  • For Stripe verification emails: follow the instructions in the email to complete identity verification through Stripe

Taking action promptly ensures your reimbursements aren't delayed or paused.
