Verify identity for Stripe

What to do when you receive an email from Stripe requesting that you verify your identity

For compliance purposes, you may receive an email like the following from Stripe. These emails are legitimate and part of Stripe’s standard “Know Your Customer” (KYC) process, which ensures reimbursements are being sent safely and to the right person.

The subject line often appears as one of the following:

  1. [Action required] Provide a date of birth for a business representative. Please note: Stripe refers to the individual as a “business representative” - this is just Stripe’s terminology and doesn’t change anything about your role. It can be safely ignored.
  2. [Action required] Stripe still needs more information to continue receiving payments from JOON
  3. [Action required] Update your information to continue receiving payments from JOON

This is a required standard practice and it does not mean that you have done anything wrong. Once you re-verify your identity through Stripe, you will continue receiving your reimbursements as normal.

The exact timing of Stripe’s requests for this information can vary by individual, and Stripe solely determines when to trigger them. In our experience, these emails typically begin once an individual has received around $1,300 in reimbursements, and Stripe requires the verification to be completed before the individual reaches $3,000 in total reimbursement.

If you receive this email, completing the verification step is required to continue receiving reimbursements.
