Data storage, security, and privacy

How your purchase data is handled

As a trusted financial vendor for 100+ organizations, JOON takes data security and privacy very seriously. Unlike free social media products which generate revenue by monetizing your data, JOON relies on subscription revenue from organizations administering benefits programs. We do not, never will, and have no incentive to share or sell your data.

Below we explain in plain-English what data we collect, how we handle that data, and our relationship with third-parties. However, if you'd like a more comprehensive explanation, please review our privacy policy, sub-processors, and data processing addendum.

Overview

The organization administering JOON to you shares with us your name, email address, eligible benefits, and any required metadata for identifying you in their other payroll systems for tax withholding purposes. We use that information to invite you to activate your account and for reporting purposes.

If the organization administering JOON has selected to make reimbursements through our platform, you will be required to connect a Direct Deposit account so that JOON has the ability to reimburse you. If you are in a country where we offer a card-connected experience, you will have the option to connect a credit or debit card so that our platform can automatically classify your purchases as eligible or ineligible. You can always also or instead manually add purchases.

Direct Deposit

JOON integrates with Stripe to manage access to your Direct Deposit account. When you connect your Direct Deposit account, you may be required to review and accept any terms from Stripe. You can read Stripe's security practices and privacy policy.

Connected cards

To power our connected card experience for classifying eligible purchases, JOON integrates with Plaid in the US and Canada, and TrueLayer in Europe. When you connect a card to either Plaid or TrueLayer, you may be required to review and accept any terms from them. You can read Plaid's privacy policy and TrueLayer's privacy policy.

Eligible purchases

Purchases that are eligible for reimbursement are stored securely and kept indefinitely for tax compliance reasons. Your employer has access to these purchases. You can find them by following these steps.

Ineligible purchases

Purchases that are not eligible for reimbursement are stored securely for 60 days and then promptly deleted. Your employer never has access to these purchases.
