How to Find and Use Your Category Guide

Your Category Guide is your go-to reference for understanding exactly what purchases are eligible under your JOON benefit. It outlines the programs, categories, subcategories, and example purchases available to you — so you always know what's covered before you buy.

What is the Category Guide?

The Category Guide is a personalized list of eligible purchase categories set by your employer. It includes the Program(s), categories, subcategories, and example purchases that are eligible for reimbursement.

To access it, click "Category Guide" within your benefit program in JOON.

How to read your Category Guide

Your Category Guide is organized by:

  • Program — the benefit program(s) you're enrolled in
  • Category — the broad type of benefit (e.g., Fitness, Wellness, Home Office)
  • Subcategory — a more specific grouping within that category (e.g., Gym Memberships, Equipment)
  • Example purchases — common eligible items to give you a sense of what qualifies

Keep in mind: the example purchases listed are not exhaustive. If your guide includes a "Gym" subcategory but your local gym isn't listed as an example, it can still be eligible.

Check for exclusions

Not all purchases within a category are automatically approved. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of your Category Guide to review any exclusions your organization has put in place. These are specific items or merchant types that have been opted out of reimbursement, even if they fall within an eligible category.

Submission deadlines

Your Category Guide may also include specific submission deadline information for your program. Always check here first if you're unsure when your purchases need to be submitted — deadlines can vary by employer.
